Train to not Suck…

DontSuck

I want to share with you guys an email I received from one of our athletes with a link to an article from Lisbeth Darsh.  Another one of our athletes had shared it on Facebook and this individual saw it, read it and then shared some very good points and concerns with me.  I have been wanting to write about the “I suck at this” issue for a while know.  After reading this email I knew that it was more potent coming from a comrade and fellow athlete than the coach.  I asked this athlete if I could share this with you so here it is: (Make sure to click on the link too)

“Hey –
I wanted to share this post with you.  (Read it here)
It’s a good post about just letting go of your shortcomings.  I am not perfect, but I try to avoid making these kinds of comments.  It can be really frustrating to hear negative comments/complains from someone who is very accomplished at many movements complain about how they didn’t do as well as they had hoped when they, in fact, kicked my ass at that very movement.  It can also be just as frustrating to hear comments like this from the newcomers as well.  We all have our strengths and weaknesses.  CrossFit (like any other athletic activity.. and well, LIFE) is a process.  We will all move through that process in a different pace.  Vocalizing how much we suck at something doesn’t really get us anywhere.

I do not want to sound like I am not complaining in any way, but I wanted to share my thoughts with you on this subject so that maybe you could remind folks in our community to be positive about their shortcomings.  In time, we will all improve.  I love everyone at CFBC and know that we have the best coaches and community around!”

There will always be things that we can be better at.   Please keep in mind that if you have been CrossFitting for a while the new athletes are looking up to you.  Whether you like it or not, you are somewhat of a role model.  Surviving and completing any CrossFit WOD is a hell of an accomplishment.  If something didn’t go well make it your mission to get better and move forward.  Some days you will perform better than others.  Train to not suck…
